Principal's Notes
Dear Parents, This has been a busy and rewarding week at North Mianus. Our third and fourth grade pilot teams for Personalized Learning hosted a visit from our colleagues in second grade at Glenville School. The second grade team visited our classrooms and exchanged ideas on their implementation efforts. We looked at math implementation across the grade levels and discussed next steps. The day was very energizing and we will be inviting them back to visit classrooms in action. Our teams will then go to Glenville to visit their rooms. Collaboration is one of the most successful routes to effective implementation and it was enjoyable to see the teams so deeply engaged in their work. Thanks to Irene Parisi, our Assistant Superintendent and Marc D’Amico, Glenville’s principal for stopping by to lend support. Just a reminder that we will be hosting our first Ask the Administrator meeting on November 2nd at 8:45 a.m. when we will discuss assessments and how to interpret results. We will look at our Smarter Balanced Assessment results and also the recent fall STAR assessments. We hope to demystify the process for you and provide some helpful tips for supporting math instruction at home. Kudos to Kat Brunswick and Amy Coupe who conducted a workshop on Digital Learning. Hopefully you walked away with a better understanding of the digital tools your children use during the day and how to access that work at home in the intermediate grades. Next week on Thursday we have a number of students supporting North Mianus Cares. On Thursday morning we will be making sandwiches that are being delivered to our local homeless population in Stamford. Many students have volunteered to bring in needed materials and to help make sandwiches. Our hope is that children will learn firsthand how to give back to our community. Our Student Council will further support these efforts once the new board has been elected and there will be other opportunities organized with the support of the PTA throughout the school year. Finally, the Wild West Book Fair is here! Beginning Monday students will be able to purchase books at their assigned classroom visits or with parents after school or on Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. You can find further details in the Preview about your child’s assigned visit during the school day. Please help support our book sale as 55% of the monies collected go back into our school through the generosity of our P.T.A. Wishing you all a happy and safe week, Angela Schmidt Kat Brunswick
